MMA Odds and Ends for Thursday: Shogun injured, Glover Teixeira now faces Rashad Evans at UFC Fight Night Tampa

Glover Texieria replaces Shogun against Rashad Evans at UFC Fight Night Tampa Damon Martin of FOX Sports reported on Wednesday that an injury has forced Mauricio “Shogun” Rua off UFC Fight Night Tampa. Fellow Brazillian Glover Teixeira has be tabbed as the replacement to face Rashad Evans. Teixeira (24-4) is coming off back to back victories over Ovince St-Preux and Patrick Cummins. The 36-year old was slated to fight Evans at UFC Fight Night 61 in February 2015, however he pulled out of that fight due to a knee injury. Evans (19-4-1) returned to the octagon after two-year layoff and ended up being on the wrong end of a decision against Ryan Bader at UFC 192. Also according to Combate, welterweights  Omari Akhmedov and Elizeu Zaleski are the latest addition to the event. Akhmedov (15-3) heads into this matchup off a knockout loss to Sergio Moraes in December. The setback snapped his two-fight win streak. Zaleski (14-5) is coming off a split decision loss to Nicolas Dalby via split decision last May. UFC Fight Night Tampa takes place April 16th from the Amalie Arena. Here’s an updated look at the card. Derek Lewis possible replacement  UFC heavyweight Ruslan Magomedov announced on Twitter that he is injured and out of his fight with Gabriel Gonzaga.

  Magomedov (14-1) has won all three of his appearances in the octagon and is currently riding a nine-fight win streak. UFC Fight Night 86 takes place April 10 at Zagreb Arena in Zagreb, Croatia.  Here’s an updated look at the card. Late Wednesday MMAJunkie reported that Derek Lewis has been in talks to replace Magomedov, although nothing is has been confirmed by the UFC. This was his second stint with the UFC where he amassed a 3-4 record earning victories over Uriah Hall, Siyar Bahadurzada and Cathal Pendred. In addition WSOF announced they have signed Abu Azaitar, an up and coming prospect from Germany. Azaitar (11-1-1) is currently riding a seven-fight unbeaten streak and has eight stoppages his 13-fight career. Also the promotion has re-signed Bryce Mitchell (5-0) and is coming off a 62 second rear-naked choke victory at WSOF in January.
