MMA Odds and Ends for Monday: Bermudez out of UFC Fight Night 81, Cyborg nixes 140-pound fight

Staph infection knocks out Dennis Bermudez from UFC Fight Night 81  MMAFighting.com reports that TUF 14 finalist Dennis Bermudez has been forced to withdraw from his matchup with Maximo Blanco at UFC Fight Night 81 due to a staph infection. The 28-year old is coming off back to back losses against Ricardo Lamas and Jeremy Stephens. There is no timetable for when Bermudez could return and a replacement opponent for Blanco has not been named. UFC Fight Night 81 takes place Jan. 17th at the TD Garden in Boston, it’s headlined by Dominick Cruz facing UFC bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw.   Cris Cyborg to defend Invicta featherweight title in January  Invicta FC president Shannon Knapp confirmed on AXS-TV’s “Inside MMA” that Cris Cyborg’s next fight will not be at a 140-pound catch weight. “Cyborg’s next fight will be at 145 pounds, this will be the first time that she has competed without hydrating herself with an I.V. So she’s made the decision to go ahead and defend her belt.” said Knapp. Instead Cyborg is reportedly defending her title against Cindy Dandois (6-2) although that news hasn’t been officially confirmed. This news comes off the announcement Dana White made last week that Ronda Rousey will get a rematch against UFC bantamweight champion Holly Holm.  You can watch the full interview here.   Bellator 147 Highlights  Josh Thomson improved to 2-0 in Bellator with his finish over Pablo Villaseca.
