MMA Odds and Ends for Thursday: Eddie Alvarez vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov in the works for UFC 206 in Toronto

480 Eddie Alvarez vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov in the works for UFC 206 in Toronto  Yesterday evening on FS1’s “UFC Tonight” Megan Olivi reported that lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez had missed the contract deadline for a potential matchup at UFC 205 in New York on November 12th. As a result, the former Bellator champ is reportedly facing Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 206 in Toronto. Alvarez (28-4) won the UFC lightweight title by knocking out former champion Rafael Dos Anjos at UFC Fight Night 90 in July. The 32-year old heads into this matchup on a three-fight win streak. Numagomedov (23-0) returned to action earlier this year after a two-year layoff to defeat Darrell Horcher at UFC on FOX 19. UFC 206 takes place Dec. 10 at Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.   Frankie Edgar vs. Jeremy Stephens and other matchups confirmed for UFC 205 Also on “UFC Tonight” a number of matchups were confirmed for UFC 205 in New York, including Frankie Edgar vs. Jeremy Stephens. Edgar (20-5-1) heads into this matchup off a decision loss to Jose Aldo at UFC 200. The New Jersey native has gone 5-2 since dropping down to featherweight in 2013. Stephens (25-12) is coming off a unanimous decision victory over former bantamweight champion Renan Barao at UFC Fight Night 88. Other matchups confirmed for the card inclue welterweights Donald Cerrone (31-7 vs. Kelvin Gastelum (12-2),  Rashad Evans (19-5-1) vs. Tim Kennedy (18-5) and Liz Carmouche (10-5) vs. Katlyn Chookagian (8-0) UFC 205 takes place at Madison Square Garden on November 12th in New York. No word on if the UFC wil still keep de Lima on the card.   Robert Whittaker vs. Derek Brunson set for UFC Fight Night 101 in Melbourne UFC officials announced Wednesday evening that middleweights Derek Brunson and Robert Whittaker will clash at UFC Fight Night 101. Brunson (16-3) is coming off an impressive TKO victory over Uriah Hall last weekend at UFC Hidalgo. The Strikeforce veteran has gone 7-1 in the UFC.  Whittaker (16-4) heads into this matchup on a five-fight winning streak. UFC Fight Night 101 takes place  at Rod Laver Arena on Saturday, November 26th in Melbourne, Australia.  The main event is a rematch between Luke Rockhold and Jacare Souza.   23-year old bantamweight Kody Nordby talks matchup with Branden Seyler tomorrow evening at CES 38  Kody Nordby (6-4) discusses his upcoming fight with Branden Seyler at CES 38 this Friday. Kody also talks about training with Rob Font for this camp, the influence Greg Rebello has had on his career and his military service earlier this year.
