Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC Vegas 116 Opening Odds:

  • The main event of UFC Vegas 116 is a five-round welterweight bout between Sean Brady and Joaquin Buckley. Brady is coming off a first-round knockout loss to Michael Morales that snapped a three-fight win streak. He was talking about moving down to lightweight after that loss, but he decided to stick around at welterweight. As for Buckley, he is coming off a decision loss to Kamaru Usman that snapped a six-fight win streak at welterweight. This should be an awesome fight between a striker and grappler, but given Brady has a big edge on the mat, it makes sense that he is the betting favorite despite Buckley having a clear striking advantage.
  • In the co-main event, Norma Dumont takes on Joselyne Edwards in a key women’s bantamweight bout. Dumont has won six fights in a row by decision, while Edwards has finished four straight opponents, so the winner of this bout may very well get a title shot.
  • Also on the card, Rafa Garcia battles Alexander Hernandez at lightweight. Garcia is coming off one of the biggest wins of his career when he finished Jared Gordon at Noche UFC last September. As for Hernandez, he has totally revived his career as he has won his last four fights in a row. It should be a great fight, and Hernandez opened as a slight favorite.
