MMA Veteran Recap: August 2016

61f9e7fc98b11beda1f7427d58379565 At the beginning of every month on MMAOddsBreaker, I feature my recurring “Veteran Watch” article which takes a look at some notable veterans competing on the regional/overseas circuit. In this article I recap how these veteran fighters fared in their respective bouts for the month of August.   August 4th – Tachi PF 28: Hot (Lemoore, California) Jared Papazian (19-12) vs. Casey Kenny (4-0)  Fight was cancelled when Papazian missed weight by 5-pounds.   August 5th – Thunder Fight 8 (Sao Paulo, Brazil) Washington Nunes def. Elias Silvério via Submission (Choke) Rd. 2  Nunes gets back on the winning track and improves to 5-2 overall. Silverio has now lost three of his last four fights. Lucas Martins def. Sergio Leal via Unanimous Decision.  Martins hands Leal his first loss since 2012 and has now won back-to-back fights.   August 6th – CFFC 60 (Atlantic City, New Jersey) Jonavin Webb def. Isaac Steele via Submission (Rear Naked Choke) at 4:59, RD. 1 Webb snaps a two-fight skid, while Steele suffers the first loss of his career Eddie Gordon def. Chris Lozano via Split Decision  Gordon earns his first win since 2014, while Lozano (who competed for the first time since 2012) has lost three of his last four fights. Nick Pace (7-3) vs. Dominic Mazzotta (10-1)  Bout cancelled per Tapology. Matt Hamill (11-7) vs. Dan Spohn (13-5) Unfortunately Matt Hamill had to pull out due to injury.   August 11th – Combate OCHO (Los Angeles, California) Lisa Ellis (15-10) vs. Kyra Batara (5-3) Bout cancelled due to an injury to Batara.   August 12th – CES 37: Summer Gold (Lincoln, Rhode Island) Matt Bessette def. Joe Pingitore via Submission (Leglock) at 4:38, RD. 2  Bellator veteran Bessette earns his fifth straight win and captures the vacant CES featherweight title. Meanwhile late replacement Pingitore suffers just the second loss of his career. Chuck O’Neil def. Roy Jones via TKO (Ground and Pound) at 2:44, RD. 1  TUF 13 competitor O’Neil has now won back-to-back fights.  Jones was also a late replacement and falls to 7-5 in his career.   August 12th – XCC 25 (Hatfield, Pennsylvania)  Alexandre “Popo” Bezerra def. Dimitre Ivy via Submission (Choke)  Former Bellator featherweight Bezerra earns back-to-back fights for the first time since 2014. Late replacement Ivy has his four fight win streak snapped.   August 13th – Valor Fights 36 (Gatlinburg, Tennessee) Joe Riggs (41-17) vs. Sidney Wheeler (5-0) Riggs pulled out of the fight due to injury.   August 13th – Fight Exclusive Night 13: Summer Edition (Gdynia, Poland)  Kamil Łebkowski def. Piotr Hallmann via Unanimous Decision  Six time UFC veteran Hallmann has now lost four of his last five fights. Lebkowski has now won 10-straight fights.   August 13th – Aspera FC 43 (Parana, Brazil)  Maiquel Falcao def. Tyago Moreira via Submission (Choke) at 4:08, RD. 1  UFC/Bellator veteran Falcao rebounds from a two-fight losing streak while Moreira has his two-fight win streak snapped.   August 13th  – Island Fights 38 (Pensacola, Florida) Keon Caldwell def. Elvin Leon Brito Caldwell has now won three of his last five fights, while Brito has his two-fight win streak snapped.   August 13th  – WXC 64: Redemption (Taylor, Michigan)  Johnny Bedford def. Mike Hernandez via Submission (Choke)  UFC vet Bedford earns his third straight win while after amassing a seven-fight win streak, Hernandez has now lost back-to-back fights.   August 19th – RFA 42: Giagos vs. Juusola (Visalia, California) Christos Giagos def. Arthur Estrázulas via Unanimous Decision  UFC veteran Giagos earns his first two-fight win streak since 2014 while Estrazulas has his three-fight win streak snapped.   August 20th – Absolute Championship Berkut 42: Battle on Sura (Penza, Russia)  Brett Cooper def. Beslan Isaev via Unanimous Decision  Former Bellator title challenger Cooper earns his first win in 2016. Isaev loses for the first time since 2013 and has his 10-fight win streak snapped.   August 20th – Dragon House 23 (San Francisco, California) Don Mohammed def. Ron Keslar via Submission (Choke) at 0:49, Rd. 2 Bellator veteran Keslar – perhaps best known for his fights with Rick Hawn, Karo Parysian and War Machine – has now lost six fights in a row. Late replacement Mohammed improves to 3-0.   August 26th – TFE: Vengeance (Anaheim, California) Joe Stevenson def. Gabriel Miglioli via Unanimous Decision  Stevenson has now won back-to-back fights after losing six bouts in a row. Miglioli has now lost three of his last four fights. Jesse Taylor def. Seth Baczynski via Unanimous Decision TUF 7 finalist Taylor snaps hist two-fight losing streak while Baczynski has now lost four in a row.   Is there a notable MMA veteran competing this month that I missed?
