MMA Odds and Ends for Wednesday: Jon Jones arrested on probation violation, Hendricks vs. Gastelum in the works for UFC 200

After drag racing citation, Jon Jones arrested on probation violation Jon Jones was arrested Tuesaday by Albuquerque police five days after being cited on multiple traffic charges according to TMZ. Jones (21-1) was pulled over last Thursday and cited for drag racing, exhibition driving, weaving, failing to properly display his license plate, and modifying his exhaust pipe according to a report from MMAjunkie. Jones was given up to 18 months supervised probation from his hit-and-run accident this past April that left a pregnant woman with a broken arm. Per his probation, he was not allowed to break any laws. The former UFC champion is scheduled to face Daniel Cormier (17-1) in the headliner of UFC 197, which takes place April 23. The UFC released a statement to MMAjunkie following news of Jones’ arrest. “UFC is aware that Jon Jones turned himself into the Albuquerque Police Department this morning for a potential probation violation stemming from a traffic stop last week,” the statement read. “UFC has been in touch with Jones’ legal team and will have no further comment until the organization has had appropriate time to gather necessary information.”   No word on if this recent arrest will effect his participation at UFC 197.   Johny Hendricks vs. Kelvin Gastelum in the works for UFC 200 MMAFighting’s Ariel Helwani reported Tuesday that welterweights Johny Hendricks and Kelvin Gastelum will meet a UFC 200 in July. Hendricks (17-4) is coming off the first stoppage loss of his career to Stephen Thompson at UFC Fight Night 82. The former UFC welterweight champion is 1-2 in his last three fights earning a victory over Matt Brown and setbacks to Robbie Lawler and Thompson. Gastelum (11-2) is also 1-2 in his last three bouts including a split decision defeat to Neil Magny in his last fight (at the TUF Latin America 2 Finale). The 24-year-old also lost a split decision to Tyron Woodley at UFC 183 but dismantled Nate Marquardt at UFC 188. UFC 200 takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Theodorou (11-1) is coming off the first loss of his career when Thiago Santos defeated him by unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 80. Prior to that, the TUF Nations winner picked up octagon victories against Sheldon Westcott, Bruno Santos and Roger Navarez. Alvey (26-7) heads into this matchup off a first round loss to Derek Brunson at UFC Fight Night 73 which snapped his three-fight win streak. The UFC also announced Steve Bosse vs. Sean O’Connell, Jason Saggo vs. Leandro Silva, Misha Cirkunov vs. Ion Cutelaba, Olivier Aubin-Mercier vs. Thibault Gouti, Tamdan McCrory vs. Krzysztof Jotko and Alex Garcia vs. Colby Covington have also been added to the card. Esparza (10-3) lost her title to Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 185 back in March 2015 which snapped her five-fight win streak. Lima (8-2) is coming off two-straight wins and her only loss in the octagon was to the aforementioned Jedrzejczyk. UFC 197 takes place from MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on April 23.
