MMA Odds and Ends for Friday: MacDonald vs. Thompson fight under discussion, Silva could face Mousasi or Kennedy next

Rory MacDonald vs. Stephen Thompson fight is under discussion UFC Tonight’s Ariel Helwani reports that discussion is underway for a potential matchup between Rory MacDonald and Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson. Thompson (12-1) last saw action earning the most impressive performance of his career. The 33-year old is coming off the a first-round TKO finish over former UFC welterweight champion Johny Hendricks. The former karate standout has won six straight fights including five finishes. MacDonald (18-3) is coming off a fifth-round TKO loss to Robbie Lawler at UFC 189. The Montreal native has won eight of his last ten bouts.   Report: Anderson Silva could face Tim Kennedy or Gegard Mousasi at UFC 198 Combate reports that former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva could be facing either Gegard Mousasi  or Tim Kennedy next in Brazil. Silva (33-7) is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Michael Bisping at UFC Fight Night 84. The 40-year old hasn’t won a fight since 2012. Mousasi (38-6-2) is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Thales Leites also at UFC Fight Night 84 and has won three of his last four fights. Kennedy (18-5) hasn’t competed since his controversial loss to Yoel Romero in September 2014. The loss snapped the American’s four fight win streak. UFC 198 will take place in Curitiba, Brazil, on May 14 at Arena da Baixada.   Angela Hill replaces Alexa Grasso vs. Stephanie Eggink at Invicta FC 16.  UFC veteran Angela Hill will step in for the injured Alexa Grasso against Stephanie Eggink at Invicta FC 16. Hill (3-2) won her Invicta FC debut this past January when she knocked out Alida Gray in the first round at Invicta FC 16. She went 1-2 in the UFC with a win over Emily Kagan and two straight losses to Tecia Torres and Rose Namajunas. Eggink (4-2) is coming off a submission loss to former champion Katja Kankaanpaa at Invicta FC 8 in September 2014. Invicta FC 16 takes place at Trinidad Pavilion at Tropicana Las Vegas on March 11.
