Titan FC 29’s Bristol Marunde: ‘The fame and fortune won’t come from MMA’

MMAOddsBreaker’s Frank Trigg speaks with Titan Fighting Championship 29 welterweight Bristol Marunde as he prepares for his upcoming main card bout against Micah Miller tonight (August 22, 2014) at the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

The veteran of Las Vegas was thinking of hanging the gloves up until a very important conversation sparked some life back into his career:

“I’ve kind of came to a point where I’m like, ‘You know what? The fame and fortune just is never gonna come from MMA. And guess what? I don’t care.’ That puts me in a good place. That for me was a big thing. Someone that helped me deal with this was Robert Follis. I was thinking about quitting and the sport just gave me anxiety. I was trying to stay busy but the only fights I could get were short notice fights in the UFC against guys like Jacare and Clint Hester… I wasn’t producing good fights or fighting to my potential and Robert Follis sat me down and bitch-slapped the truth into me. He told me, ‘You’re an ugly fighter. You’re like Randy Couture, more blue collar. Why are you trying to be fancy? Why are you trying to stand with guys? You’ve gotta be you.’ That hit me like a ton of bricks.”
