UFC Fight Night 47’s Sara McMann: ‘Ronda Rousey’s knee was more of a fluke’

MMAOddsBreaker’s Frank Trigg speaks with UFC Fight Night 47 women’s bantamweight Sara McMann as she prepares for her upcoming preliminary card bout against Lauren Murphy this Saturday (August 16, 2014) at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, Maine.

The recent title challenger suffered her first defeat to Ronda Rousey in her last bout, and she reflected on some mistakes she’d made against the champion:

“Everybody’s been hit by knees in practice. It’s not like anybody came in and dominated me with knees. I think that was a lot more of a fluke because she’d thrown knees earlier in the fight that I’d absorbed or deflected or posted on them. One got through and I was pretty stretched out and I wasn’t tightened up and prepared for it. I think that’s the name of the game. It happens when you don’t feel it or expect it. A lot of my focus was more on keeping it standing to stay out of her comfort area. Anyone else, I’d have just tried to take them down. Once I get a body lock on someone, that part is automatic. Having a gameplan that kept me on the feet, I definitely should have paid more attention to the clinch work than the striking work. But yeah, hindsight’s 20/20.”
