MMA Odds and Ends for Wednesday: Evinger faces “Cyborg” at UFC 214, Lawler vs. Cerrone off UFC 213

UFC officials announced Tuesday that Tonya Evinger will replace Megan Anderson at UFC 214 against Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino for the women’s 145-pound title on July 29th.

The Invicta FC featherweight champion, issued a statement on Twitter, saying “pressing personal reasons” is why she’s off this fight.

Evinger (19-5) makes her UFC debut and heads into this matchup on a 10-fight unbeaten streak. The Invicta FC bantamweight champion tried out for Season 18 of The Ultimate Fighter but lost to Raquel Pennington in the opening matchup to get into the house.

Donald Cerrone injured, matchup with Robbie Lawler bout likely moved to UFC 214

MMAFighting broke the news this morning that the welterweight matchup between Donald Cerrone vs. Robbie Lawler at UFC 213 is off the card due to an undisclosed injury to “Cowboy.”  The report also mentions the matchup will likely be rescheduled for UFC 214. Albert Morales now faces Brett Johns at UFC Fight Night 113

Jim Edwards at Champions reports that Mitch Gagnon has pulled out of his scheduled matchup with Brett Johns at UFC Fight Night 113 on July 16th. Replacing Gagnon will be fellow bantamweight Albert Morales.

Morales (7-1-1) is coming off his first UFC victory, as he defeated Andre Soukhamthath by split decision at UFC 209. The 26-year-old has won five of his seven career fights by stoppage. Meanwhile, Johns (13-0) came out on top in his promotional debut, earning a unanimous-decision win over Kwan Ho Kwak at UFC Fight Night 99. The former Titan FC champion was slated to face Ian Entwistle at UFC Fight Night 107, but that bout was scrapped due to his opponent having weight cut issues.
