Travis Browne vs Derrick LewisThe Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was back in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada last Sunday (February 19, 2017) for the second time in promotional history with UFC Fight Night 105: Lewis vs. Browne, where five of 11 bouts ended inside the distance. It was a back-and-forth scrap that saw both big men have their moments, with Browne getting the better of Lewis in the first round of action, and Lewis coming back strong in the second and ultimately knocking his opponent out with his signature ground-and-pound — arguably the most brutal in all of MMA. Noteworthy fight(s): – Elias Theodoreau defeated Cezar Ferreira via controversial unanimous decision. – Santiago Ponzinibbio defeated Nordine Taleb via unanimous decision. – Aiemann Zahabi defeated Reginaldo Vieira via unanimous decision. Paul Felder earns Performance of the Night for his first-round TKO of Alessandro Ricci to kick off the main card. Felder snapped a two-fight winning skid with the victory, and the fan favorite added another highlight finish to his reel. Thiago Santos earns Performance of the Night for his second-round TKO of Jack Marshman after facing some trouble in the opening round. Santos dropped Marshman with a head kick and followed up with a couple of punches to get the referee to step in and halt the action. He survived a rough first round to come back and finish the Hawaiian in the second. – Sara McMann made quick work of short-notice promotional newcomer Gina Mazany, defeating her via arm-triangle choke submission early in the very first round of action. – Gerald Meerschaert defeated Ryan Janes via armbar submission in the opening round of as well, handing the Canadian his first official professional MMA defeat.
