Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC 331 Opening Odds:
- The main event of UFC 331 sees UFC flyweight champion Joshua Van battle former champion Alexandre Pantoja in a rematch. These two first met at UFC 323 last December, when Van upset Pantoja to win the belt after the former champ injured his elbow. Now that he is healthy, Pantoja has been given an immediate rematch without having to fight again, while Van is coming off a TKO win over Tatsuro Taira in his first successful title defense. Despite Van winning the first fight between the rivals, Pantoja opened up as a small betting favorite to win the rematch.
- In the co-main event, we have Arman Tsarukyan taking on Mauricio Ruffy in a key lightweight bout. Tsarukyan has been waiting for a title shot for several years now, and he could very well get one should he get past Ruffy in this fight. As for Ruffy, he is coming off a brutal knockout win over Michael Chandler and is hoping that if he can upset the apple cart and topple Tsarukyan, he could be next in line for the title shot. We’ll see what happens, but it should be a great fight regardless of who wins it.
