Here are my initial thoughts on the Opening Odds for Dana White’s Contender Series 87:
- The main event of DWCS 87 is a heavyweight bout between Anthony Wint and Matt Adams. Wint is an undefeated prospect who enters this bout with a 6-0 pro MMA record. Wint is especially intriguing as a heavyweight prospect because he is a former NFL player for the New York Jets who transitioned to MMA. He is now one win away from making it to the UFC. As for Adams, he comes from the Ohio regional scene, while also fighting for LFA. While Adams has some knockout power, he has been finished twice so far during his MMA career. That certainly does not bode well for Adams here against Wint, given how much knockout power Wint has. Look for Wint to win this fight by knockout and earn himself a UFC contract.
- Also on the card is a lightweight bout between Fabrizio Escarrega and Abe Alsaghir. Escarrega is a Mexican native who has won his last three fights by stoppage, with his only career loss coming by way of injury TKO. As for Alsaghir, he is an undefeated prospect who comes to DWCS from the Michigan regional scene. While Escarrega opened as the favorite, he is now the underdog, as the early money has come in on Alsaghir in what should be a competitive fight between two rising lightweight MMA prospects.
