Here are my initial thoughts on the Opening Odds for Road To UFC: Season 2, Episode 2

  • At featherweight, Li Kai Wen faces Kai Lu. Wen has competed for the majority of his career for ONE Championship, so he enters the Road to UFC coming out of a respected MMA promotion. Although he did lose his last fight by knockout, he won four straight fights before that, with all of those wins coming by way of stoppage. It is worth noting that he has not fought since 2021, so he is entering this bout coming off of a long layoff. As for Lu, he went 1-1 on Road to UFC last year with a knockout win and a knockout loss. Overall, this looks like another close one to call. While Wen is the favorite here, the long layoff is a bit of a concern. Given Lu has experience fighting on the show, don’t be surprised if he ends up pulling off the upset.
  • At flyweight, Seung Guk Choi fights Sumit Kumar. Choi has actually fought in the UFC already, losing via third-round submission to Hyun Sung Park earlier this year. He went 2-0 on Road to UFC last season, so he has experience on this show already. As for Kumar, he’s 4-0 in his pro career, and he also has several other wins that were flagged on his record for being illegitimate. Choi should win this fight, and he’s a huge favorite according to the bookies.
