Here are my initial thoughts on the Opening Odds for Road To UFC: Season 2, Episode 3

  • At lightweight we have Zhu Rong taking on Sung Chan Hong. If you remember, Rong was in the UFC previously, where he went 1-2 with a knockout win over Brandon Jenkins but with losses to Kazula Vargas and Ignacio Bahamondes. The UFC released him but he was able to pick up a win in UAE Warriors to get another chance on Road to UFC. His opponent, Hong, is unbeaten over his last nine fights, including two No Contests with former UFC fighter Takenori Sato. Although Hong has a nice record and is on a long winning streak, Rong has fought the better competition overall and it makes sense why he is heavily favored to win this contest.
  • Also on the card is Shuya Kamikubo against Baergeng Jieleyis at bantamweight. Kamikubo is riding a 10-fight unbeaten streak at the moment, including six straight victories for ONE Championship. As for Jieleyis, he has won his last five fights in a row heading into this bout. Given Kamikubo has been fighting a higher level of competition in a superior promotion, it makes sense that he is the favorite heading into this bout. He should be able to get the win here, and he certainly has a chance to make it in the UFC if he wins impressively.
