Here are my initial thoughts on the Opening Odds for Cage Warriors 153:

  • The main event of Cage Warriors 153 sees Rhys McKee fight Jim Wallhead for the CWFC welterweight title. McKee has won both of his fights in CWFC since being released by the UFC, and he won the vacant title in his last fight with a knockout win over Justin Burlinson. As for Wallhead, he won the interim title in his last fight and overall he has won four straight bouts. Although Wallhead is 39 years old, he is fighting at a very high level right now and he has a chance to win this fight. Still, with McKee being the much younger fighter and being in the prime of his career, the oddsmakers opened him up as the betting favorite for this bout.
  • In the co-main event, Tobias Harila takes on Ryan Shelley in a featherweight bout. Harila has been inconsistent lately with a 2-2 record over his past four fights, but he is still a very talented fighter. As for Shelley, he’s unbeaten so far in MMA with a perfect 6-0 record and he appears to be a very good prospect in his weight class. The oddsmakers opened up Shelley as the betting favorite, and it’s hard to disagree with that when he has never lost in his career.
