Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC 285 Opening Odds:

  • The main event of UFC 285 is a vacant heavyweight title bout between Jon Jones and Ciryl Gane. Jones is returning to the UFC for the first time since February 2020, when he won a close decision over Dominick Reyes. After three years away from the cage, he now returns to the Octagon up at heavyweight when he takes on Gane. At light heavyweight, Jones was the best fighter in the world for many years. At heavyweight, though, we still don’t know how he will look. As for Gane, he has been one of the best heavyweights in the sport for the last few years. He’s coming off of a big knockout win over Tai Tuivasa and his only loss in the UFC came against Francis Ngannou, so it should be interesting to see how he looks against Jones. Gane opened as the favorite, but the line has flipped and now Jones is favored to win the belt.
  • In the co-main event, women’s flyweight champ Valentina Shevchenko is a massive favorite to beat Alexa Grasso. Shevchenko is a perfect 9-0 at 125lbs and the only fighter who really gave her any problems has been Taila Santos. Grasso has won her last four fights in a row and she’s looked great, but stepping up in competition against Shevchenko is a tough matchup.
