Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC Vegas 59 Opening Odds:

  • The main event of UFC Vegas 59 is a five-round heavyweight bout between Jamahal Hill and Thiago Santos. Hill is coming off of back-to-back knockout wins over Jimmy Crute and Johnny Walker and he is looking like one of the best light heavyweights in the sport these days. As for Santos, he appears to be on a decline as he’s lost four of his last five fights overall. Although Santos has more UFC experience, he is getting up there in age and he is now taking on one of the best knockout artists in the division, and that’s why Hill opened up as the betting favorite.
  • Also on the card is an awesome welterweight bout between Vicente Luque and Geoff Neal. Luque is coming off of a decision loss to Belal Muhammad but he had won four straight fights prior to that and is still one of the highest-ranked fighters in the weight class. As for Neal, he is coming off of a split decision win over Santiago Ponzibbio in his last fight. Both men are solid strikers but Luque has the better ground game and he opened up as the betting favorite here.
