Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC Shanghai Opening Odds:
- The main event of UFC Shanghai is a five-round bantamweight bout between Umar Nurmagomedov and Song Yadong. Nurmagomedov is coming off back-to-back decision wins over Deiveson Figueiredo and Mario Bautista that have gotten him back in title contention after losing to former champ Merab Dvalishvili last year. As for Song, he is coming off an impressive submission win over Figueiredo that showed he is one of the sport’s elite bantamweights. Still, this is a difficult stylistic matchup for him, so look for Nurmagomedov to emerge as the victor, and the lopsided betting odds suggest that this fight won’t be particularly close.
- In the co-main event, we have a women’s strawweight bout between Yan Xiaonan and Denise Gomes. Xiaonan is coming off a decision loss to Virna Jandiroba in a fight where she was badly outgrappled. As for Gomes, she is riding a four-fight win streak at the moment and is closing in on title contention at 115 lbs. Still, this is a step up in competition for Gomes, and if Xiaonan can keep this fight on the feet, she should have a chance to outpoint Gomes and get back into the win column.
