UFC Vegas 6 Closing Odds and Fight Results

UFC Vegas 6 took place Saturday, August 8, 2020 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. The card was headlined by a heavyweight bout between Derrick Lewis and Aleksei Oleinik.

Favorites that Won

In the main event Derrick Lewis surprisingly went to the ground with Aleksei Oleinik in the first round and was put in some perilous positions on the canvas. Lewis learned his lesson in the second round, blitzing Oleinik with a big right hand to drop the Russian, then finishing him with brutal ground strikes to earn a TKO victory. Lewis was a -193 favorite while Oleinik was +168

With the fight deadlocked 1-1 heading into the third round, Chris Weidman took a dominant position on the ground and proceeded to control Omari Akhmedov from full mount and back control to take a unanimous decision victory. Weidman was -150 while Akhmedov was +130

Maki Pitolo stunned Darran Stewart briefly, but Stewart reversed a takedown attempt to sink in a nasty guillotine to force a tap in the first round. Stewart was -190 while Pitolo was +165

Yana Kunitskaya completely outmuscled Julija Stoliarenko over the course of three rounds, pinning her against the fence in the clinch and also taking top position. Stoliarenko couldn’t sink in an armbar and ended up losing a one-sided decision. Kunitskaya was -150 while Stoliarenko was +130

Beneil Dariush hurt Scott Holtzman early with a beautiful knee up the middle, then followed up with several heavy punches on the feet. Holtzman hung tough, but then Dariush landed a devastating spinning back fist, connecting with his forearm to knock Holtzman out late in the first round. Dariush came through as a -210 favorite. Holtzman was +180

Kevin Holland was in complete control of his fight against Joaquin Buckley, then he put the cherry on top by knocking Buckley out with a beautiful straight right hand early in the third round. Holland was a -455 fav. Buckley was a +360 dog.

Nasrat Haqparest had one-way traffic against a completely outgunned Alex Munoz, coasting a dominant unanimous decision victory by winning all three rounds on all three judges’ scorecards. Haqparest was a -255 favorite while Munoz was +217

Justin Jaynes hurt Gavin Tucker in the first round, but Gavin Tucker took control in the second round then was able to finish Jaynes via rear naked choke in the third frame. Tucker was victorious as a -117 favorite while Tucker was -103

Youseff Zalal coasted to a one-sided decision victory against an overmatched Peter Barrett as the biggest favorite on the card. Zalal was a heavy -565 fav while Barrett was +440

In the opening bout of the evening, Ali Al Qaisi and Irwin Rivera split the first and third rounds, with the second round being the swing round. In the end, Rivera was able to win a split decision as he had the momentum as the fight ended. Rivera was -162. Al Qaisi was +142

 

Underdogs that Won

After a close first round, Tim Means hurt Laureano Staropoli in the second round, then crowded him with heavy punches for the remainder of the fight, outworking the Argentinian to earn a unanimous decision. Means was a +138 underdog while Staropoli was -158

Andrew Sanchez isn’t known for having heavy hands, but that’s exactly what he displayed against Wellington Turman, blasting Turman with a right hand and knocking him out cold with follow-up ground and pound in the first round. Sanchez was a slight +115 underdog while Turman was -135
