Mixed Martial Arts Veteran Recap: May 2016

At the beginning of every month on MMAOddsBreaker, I feature my recurring “Veteran Watch” article which takes a look at some notable veterans competing on the regional/overseas circuit. In this article I recap how these veteran fighters fared in their respective bouts for the month of May.   May 6th-  1° Round Combat 2 (Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil) Fábio Maldonado (22-9) vs. Felipe Dantas (9-0) Bout cancelled per Tapology   May 7th-  West Coast FC 17: Emmett vs. Aveles (Sacramento, California) Scott Smith (18-11) vs. Kito Andrews (11-6) Bout cancelled per Tapology   May 13th-  Cage 35 (Helsinki, Finland)  Felipe Silva def. Anton Kuivanen via TKO (Punches) at 4:04, RD. 1 Silva meanwhile now won six of his seven career victories by stoppage while Kuivanen has lost back to back fights.   May 13th-  Legacy FC 55: Ledet vs. Ritani-Coe (Houston, Texas)  Damacio Page (19-10) vs. Ryan Hollis (11-8) Bout cancelled per tapology   May. 14th – BAMMA 25: Champion vs. Champion (Birmingham, England) Walter Gahadza def. Colin Fletcher via DQ  Gahadza remains undefeated improving to 15-0 while Fletcher has now lost two of his last three fights.   May. 14th – Global Proving Ground 24: Fighting for Wounded Warriors 3 (Voorhees, New Jersey) Hayder Hassan (6-3) vs. Idrees Wasi (2-4) Bout cancelled per tapology   May. 14th – Battleground (Kissimmee, Florida) Charles Bennett def. Paul Rodriguez via Submission (Leglock) at 0:24, RD. 1 Bennett has now won two of his last three fights, while Rodriguez has lost two of his last three fights.   May. 15th – Road FC 31 (Seoul, South Korea)  Yoon Jun Lee def. George Roop via TKO at 1:15, RD. 1 Lee is now on a nine-fight win streak while Roop has now lost three in a row.   May. 19th – King of The Cage: Battle Zone (Worley, Idaho) Alvin Robinson (15-9) vs. Daniel Swain (15-6-1) Bout cancelled per Tapology Wes Combs (20-6) vs. Tony Bonello (16-3-1)  Bout cancelled per Tapology   May. 19th – Tachi Palace Fights 27 Cody Gibson def. Rolando Velasco via Unanimous Decision  Four-time UFC veteran Gibson earns back-to-back victories for the first time since 2013. While Velasco has his three-fight win streak snapped. Jared Papazian def. Alex Perez via Submission (Armbar) at 3:26, RD. 1  Former UFC bantamweight Papazian has now won two of his last three bouts, while Perez has now lost two-straight.   May. 27th – KSW 35: Khalidov vs. Karaoglu (Gdańsk/Sopot, Poland) Marcin Wrzosek def. Filip Wolański via Unanimous Decision One time UFC vet Marcin Wrzosek earns his first victory since his UFC release, while Wolanski suffers the first loss of his career. Kendall Grove (23-15) vs. Michal Materla (22-5)  Bout cancelled per Tapology (Breach of Contract)   May. 28th- Venator FC 3: Palhares vs. Meek (Milan, Italy) Emil Weber Meek def. Rousimar Palhares via KO/TKO (Punches/Elbows) at 0:45, RD. 1  Meek earns the biggest victory of his career has he knocks out former WSOF welterweight champion Palhares and now rides a three-fight win streak. Palhares meanwhile has his four-fight win streak snapped. Mattia Schiavolin def. Jason “Mayhem” Miller via Submission (Guillotine Choke) at 3:10, RD. 2  Schiavolin earns this win on short notice and has now earned four victories in his last five-fights. Miller meanwhile has lost three-straight fights. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou def. Matt Hamill via TKO (Punches) at 0:37, RD. 1  Sokoudjou snaps a two-fight skid while Hamill has now lost three in a row. Karl Amoussou def. Giovanni Melillo via TKO/KO (Head Kick and Punches) at 4:51, RD. 1 Former Bellator title challenger Amoussou earns his fifth straight win. Melillo suffers the first loss of his career. Che Mills (16-8 NC ) vs. Terry Montgomery (5-0 NC) – No Contest  Bout ends in a No Contest due to an accidental elbow to the back of the head Cody McKenzie def.  Valeriu Mircea via Submission (Guillotine Choke) at 1:30, RD. 2  Former UFC fighter McKenzie snaps his five-fight losing streak while Mircea has his six-fight win streak snapped.   May. 28th – Global Warriors FC 3 (Brantford, Canada)  Jonathan Brookins (15-7) vs. Lyndon Whitlock (10-5)  Event moved to June 24th.
