Post-UFC Fight Night 87: On the Chopping Block

UFC-156The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) made it’s inaugral trip to the Netherlands with UFC Fight Night 87: Overeem vs Arlovski and produced a night of great action. Following the memorable night of scraps, let’s take a look at which of the evening’s competitors we may no longer see in action inside the Octagon… ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva “Bigfoot” is coming off a first round knockout loss to Stefan Struve this past weekend and has now been stopped inside the first round in four of his last five bouts. I don’t think he can hang in there against even the mid-tier of the division anymore, so I would like to see the Brazilian hang up his gloves. Whether he retires or gets cut, I think it would make sense to call it UFC career a wrap after Sunday’s co-main event outing. Dominic Waters Waters came up short on the judges’ scorecards this past weekend at UFC Fight Night 87 in Rotterdam, losing a unanimous decision to England’s Leon Edwards. The loss makes it three straight defeats for Waters, including another unanimous decision to George Sullivan and a second round submission to “Stun Gun” Dong Hyun Kim. Left without victory in three Octagon appearances, I don’t think Waters will be getting another opportunity to earn his first. I expect the UFC to release him following the loss to Edwards in the Netherlands. I don’t think he is a UFC-caliber welterweight, so I don’t believe he will work his way back for a second stint in the big show.
