Post-UFC on FOX 19: On the Chopping Block

Omari-AkhmedovUFC on FOX 19 came and went, producing a night of entertaining action that saw seven of 11 bouts end inside the inside, and with the night of scraps now in our rear view, let’s take a look at which of the evening’s competitors we may no longer see in action inside the Octagon… ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK Bethe Correia Correi was game against Raquel Pennington on the televised preliminary card of this past Saturday night’s UFC on FOX 19, but ultimately came up short on the judges’ scorecards, losing a split decision following the back and fourth three round battle. The fight saw both fighters have their moments, but it was Pennington who managed to edge it out, dropping the Brazilian to a two-fight skid inside the Octagon, including a first round knockout to then-UFC women’s bantamweight title holder Ronda Rousey. I think it is more than like that Correia will be receiving a third and final shot inside the Octagon, but it would not surprise me to see her receive a pink slip just following two losses, as I have seen the UFC make more ridiculous cuts in recent times. Omari Akhmedov Akhmedov took the fight to Elizeu Zaleski to kick off the UFC on FOX 19 preliminary card, but the Brazilian was one step ahead him the whole way, eventually finding a TKO stoppage in the third and final frame of action. Akhmedov has now dropped back to back fights by third round knockout, the previous coming at the hands of another Brazilian in Sergio Moraes. Despite earning ‘Fight of the Night’ honors for the battle with Zaleski, I could see the UFC releasing Akhmedov from his contract following the consecutive knockout defeats. I think there is a slightly better chance they give him another crack inside the Octagon, but I would not be at all surprised to see him gone.
