MMA Odds and Ends for Wednesday: Chris Leben’s comeback with Bellator nixed due to heart condition

Heart condition halts Chris Leben’s MMA comeback  MMAJunkie reports that Chris Leben’s MMA comeback with Bellator is no longer happening. Doctors informed the TUF 1 contestant that they discovered a severe medical condition that left him with just 18 percent of normal blood flow to his heart. Bellator President Scott Coker responded to the news  “We are saddened to hear of Chris Leben’s current health situation and would have loved to see him compete inside the Bellator cage. A fighter’s health and safety is of the utmost importance to us as an organization. We wish Chris the best in his future endeavors and we are happy to provide a platform for him to share his story with people around the world.” Leben (22-11) signed with Bellator earlier this month however doctors discovered a “life-threatening abnormality” to the left ventricle of his heart according to the report.     Tank Abbott vs Dan Severn set for UR Fight With Ken Shamrock losing to Royce Gracie at Bellator 149, Tank Abbot now steps in to face Dan Severn at UR Fight on March 20th. Abbott (10-15) hasn’t fought since April 2013 when he lost to  Ruben “Warpath” Villareal at KOTC: Fighting Legends. Severn (101-19-7) hasn’t fought since a 2012 win over Alex Rozman at Iowa Regional.  Also on the card is boxing legend Roy Jones Jr, who will be taking on Vyron Phillips (5-3 MMA) in a boxing match with a $100,000 prize for the challenger if he’s able to emerge victorious. The card also features a grappling match between former Chael Sonnen and UFC middleweight Michael Bisping and pro-wrestling match between Rey Mysterio, Jr and Kurt Angle. UR Fight’s takes place March 20th from the Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix, AZ.
