MMA Odds and Ends for Thursday: Anthony Pettis vs. Edson Barboza set for UFC 197

Anthony Pettis vs. Edson Barboza scheduled for UFC 197 The UFC announced Wednesday that a lightweight matchup pitting former champion Anthony Pettis and Edson Barboza has been added to UFC 197. Pettis (18-4) is coming off back to back losses for the first time in his career, losing the UFC 155-pound title to Rafael dos Anjos and suffering a defeat to Eddie Alvarez in his last fight. Barboza (16-4) is coming off a second round submission loss to Tony Ferguson at the TUF 22 Finale. He’s now 1-2 in his last three bouts. UFC 197 takes place April 23 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Faszholz (3-0) has won all of her fights by submission and is coming off a victory over Brittney Elkin in November. Murphy (8-2) has lost both of her fights in the octagon against Liz Carmouche and Sara McMann. Also added on the card is Anthony Smith, who serves as a late replacement for Trevor Smith against Leonardo Augusto Leleco. Smith (24-11) is currently riding a seven-fight unbeaten streak and is coming off a TKO victory over UFC vet Josh Neer at Victory FC 47. Leleco (11-1) is making his UFC debut and is also riding a seven-fight unbeaten streak. The organization requires all athletes who compete in the UFC to act in an ethical and responsible manner, as detailed in the UFC Fighter Conduct Policy. UFC will not tolerate violations of the policy. Every athlete is deserving of proper review and this situation, as with any serious allegation, will be investigated by an independent party and thoroughly reviewed by the UFC. The UFC organization will also cooperate with any law enforcement investigation. In light of the serious allegations, UFC has postponed plans to book Penn for an upcoming bout until more details are determined.  UFC holds athletes who compete in the organization to the highest standard and will continue to take appropriate action, if and when warranted. It is important to note that Penn is considered innocent until proven guilty and UFC is not prejudging this matter.”   Patrick Cummins vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira official for a UFC card on May 14th A light heavyweight matchup between Patrick Cummins and Antonio Rogerio Nogueria has been scheduled. Cummins (8-3) is 1-2 in his last three bouts with both of his losses coming by way of knockout. Nogueira (21-7) has gone 2-4 in his past five bouts suffering notable setbacks to Anthony Johnson and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.   The latest May 14th event (possibly named UFC Fight Night 88) looks like this Vitor Belfort vs. Ronaldo Souza Matt Brown vs. Demian Maia Patrick Cummins vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira Evan Dunham vs. Leonardo Santos Nate Marquardt vs. Thiago “Marreta” Santos   Court McGee vs. Santiago Ponzinibbio set for UFC on FOX 19  A pair of welterweights will meet in April at UFC on FOX 19 as Court McGee takes on Santiago Ponzinibbio McGee (17-4) is coming off a win over Marcio Alexandre Jr. at UFC 194. The 31-year old is now 3-1 in his past four bouts. Ponzinibbio (21-3) is coming off a TKO victory over Andreas Stahl at UFC Fight Night 80 in December.
