Post-UFC on FOX 18: And the Bonus Goes to…

103_Ben_RothwellUFC on FOX 18 came and went, producing a night of entertaining action that saw six of 13 bouts end inside the inside. After the event concluded, the UFC awarded $50,000 to two fighters for ‘Performance of the Night’ and two fighters for ‘Fight of the Night’. The lines to wager on these props were available at Several Bookmakerss. UFC on FOX 18’s Post-Fight Bonus-Award winners were… Anthony Johnson earns Performance of the Night (formerly, Knockout of the Night) “Rumble” made quick work of Ryan Bader in the main event of the evening for UFC on FOX 18 in New Jersey this past Saturday night. Bader attempted to take the fight to the mat from the opening bell and it backfired, as Johnson ended up in top position, eventually taking mount and laying a ground and pound that removed Bader from consciousness. It was a great performance by Johnson, as he improves to 2-0 since his last bid for the gold and cemented himself as the number one contender to take on the winner of Daniel Cormier vs Jon Jones. Noteworthy T/KO(s): – Rafael Natal defeated Kevin Casey via TKO in the third round of action. After dropping him previously in the fight, the Brazilian hurt Casey again in the final stanza and poured it on until the referee intervened to halt the action. It was an impressive performance and victory for Natal, and his fourth straight inside the Octagon. – Alexander Yakovlev defeated George Sullivan via knockout in the first round of action. It was a great highlight for the Russian to add to his real and a big win for him in his return to the UFC’s welterweight division. Ben Rothwell earns Performance of the Night (formerly, Submission of the Night)Noteworthy Submission(s): – Bryan Barbarena defeated Sage Northcutt via arm triangle choke from half-guard, which is very, very hard for anybody to pull off. The only reason this is a noteworthy submission is because of all the flack Northcutt has received afterwards for tapping prematurely. The “Super” Sage hype train has certainly been derailed. – Tony Martin defeated Felipe Olivieri via third round rear naked choke submission to get back into the win column. It was a nice performance and win by Martin, who likely saved his spot on the UFC’s 155-pound roster with the victory. Jimmie Rivera and Iuri Alcantara earn Fight of the Night honors for their three round battle on the main card for this past Saturday night’s UFC on FOX 18 in New Jersey. Rivera put up a great performance and took home a unanimous decision victory over the Brazilian veteran, and he is now enjoying a three fight winning streak in the UFC. This was a very fun fight in which both 135-pounders had their moments, but “El Terror” did most of the damage over the course of 15 minutes to take home a clear cut decision. Noteworthy fight(s): – The aforementioned Rothwell vs Barnett bout. – The aforementioned Brown vs Dwyer bout. – The aforementioned Martin vs Olivieri bout.
