MMA Odds and Ends for Tuesday: Recent fight bookings, TUF 23 holds tryouts

In your Tuesday edition of MMA Odds and Ends we’ve got an interesting matchup booked in the featherweight division, a report about a mega rematch in the middleweight division, Cyborg’s next fight and the show that just keeps on giving – The Ultimate Fighter – announced their details for Season 23 tryouts.   Dennis Bermudez vs. Maximo Blanco set for UFC Fight Night 81 The Boston Herald broke the news that #9 ranked featherweight Dennis Bermudez (14-5) will be taking on Maximo Blanco (12-6-1) at UFC Fight Night 81 on January 17th in Boston, MA. Bermudez heads into the matchup off back to back losses to Jeremy Stephens and Ricardo Lamas after going on a seven-fight win streak. Blanco has won three straight including his last bout against Mike De La Torre where he won via first round knockout despite missing weight.   Report: Anderson Silva vs. Vitor Belfort II on deck for UFC 197? A report out of Brazil from Jornal O Globo mentions that Anderson Silva (33-6- 1NC) is booked to return to the octagon against Vitor Belfort (25-11) at UFC 197 in March. Silva is coming off a No Contest against Nick Diaz back at UFC 183 earlier this year, where he tested positive for drostanolone and androsterone post fight. Prior to the NC, the former UFC middleweight champion dropped back to back fights against current middleweight torch-bearer Chris Weidman. Belfort comes into this fight off a first round TKO victory over Dan Henderson earlier this month. The pair first fought at UFC 126 on Feburary 5th, 2011 where Silva won via spectacular front kick knockout.   Cris Cyborg vs. Cindy Dandois set for Invicta FC 15 Invicta president Shannon Knapp announced Monday on The MMA Hour that Cris Cyborg’s (14-1- 1 NC) next fight will take place Jan. 16th in Costa Mesa, California against Miesha Tate’s teammate Cindy Dandois (6-2). It still remains unclear whether this will take place at a 140-pound catchweight or not. Cyborg is coming off a 45-second TKO of Faith Van Duin at Invicta 13 in July and hasn’t tasted defeat since 2005. Dandois is coming off a second round submission victory over Megan Anderson at Invicta 14  back in September, which improved her record to 6-2.   TUF 23 tryouts features light heavyweight and both women’s divisions  “Do you want to be a f**ing fighter”? Well the UFC announced Monday that try-outs for the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter are set for Dec. 14th at the Red Rock Casino in Las Vegas, NV. Prospects from all over the world will have the opportunity to try out either for the mens 205-pound division or the women’s strawweight and bantamweight divisions. The Ultimate Fighter Season 23 is set to film in January with the show premièring in April 2016. Interested? Information on the tryouts can be found here http://www.ufc.com/TUF23.   Regional Roundup: CES MMA 32 set for Jan 8th, featuring two title fights  Rhode Island based CES MMA announced Monday that newly crowned lightweight champion Luis Felix (14-8) will be defending his title against UFC vet Waylon Lowe (16-7) while new welterweight champ Gil de Freitas (18-5) will be facing Chris Curtis (12-4). These two matchups are slated for CES 32 which takes place Jan. 8th at the Twin River Casino in Lincoln, RI. You can catch the action live on AXS TV.
