UFC on FOX 13 Closing Odds & Results

UFC-156 UFC on FOX 13 took place Saturday night at Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, Arizona, and overall it was a terrific fight card that featured a number of standout performances, big-time upsets and brutal finishes. Overall from a betting perspective, eight favorites and four underdogs won based on the closing odds at Several Bookmakers. Here’s a quick recap for each fight. Favorites That Won In the main event of the evening, Junior dos Santos defeated Stipe Miocic via unanimous decision (49-46 x 2, 48-47). It was a competitive fight between two heavy-handed heavyweights that could have went either way, but the judges sided with JDS and he took home the W. JDS closed at -400 (bet $400 to win $100) while Miocic closed at +355 (bet $100 to win $355). In a lightweight bout, Rafael dos Anjos defeated Nate Diaz via unanimous decision (30-26 x 2, 30-27). RDA landed brutal leg kicks that hurt Diaz and also scored a number of takedowns to easily win the decision on the judges’ cards. RDA was -275 while Diaz was +250. In a heavyweight bout, Alistair Overeem defeated Stefan Struve via first-round TKO (punches). Overeem landed a takedown and took Struve to the ground where he beat him up with ground and pound to secure the victory. Overeem was -200 while Struve was +185. In a heavyweight bout, Matt Mitrione defeated Gabriel Gonzaga via first-round TKO (punches). Mitrione hurt Gonzaga badly with a short left hand that dropped him, and he finished him up with ground and pound for the win. Mitrione was -130 while Gonzaga was +120. In a flyweight bout, John Moraga defeated Willie Gates via third-round submission (rear-naked choke). Gates knocked Moraga down in the first round and took his back, but he couldn’t lock in the submission and he spent the rest of the fight fending off Moraga’s attacks until getting finished late in the third. Moraga was -570, Gates +480. In a welterweight bout, Ben Saunders defeated Joe Riggs via first-round submission (injury). Riggs injured his neck on a takedown attempt and the fight had to be stopped due to injury. Saunders was -250 while Riggs was +230. In a lightweight bout, David Michaud defeated Garret Whiteley via unanimous decision. (29-28 x 2, 30-27). Michaud used his wrestling advantage to take Whiteley down to the floor and control him on the mat for the decision win. Michaud was -230 while Whiteley was +210. In a bantamweight bout, Henry Cejudo defeated Dustin Kimura via unanimous decision (30-27 x 3). Cejudo chose to keep this fight on the feet and he showed off improved boxing to easily take home the decision. Cejudo was -215 while Kimura was +195. Underdogs That Won In a women’s strawweight bout, Joanna Jedrzejczyk defeated Claudia Gadelha via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 29-28). This was a close fight and most thought Gadelha won with her grappling, but the judges sided with Jedrzejczyk and her superior striking. Jedrzejczyk closed at +248, Gadelha -270. In a lightweight bout, Drew Dober defeated Jamie Varner via first-round submission (rear-naked choke). Varner knocked himself out on a takedown attempt and didn’t recover in time as Dober took advantage and quickly tapped him out with a RNC. Dober was a +400 underdog while Varner lost at -450. In a lightweight bout, Bryan Barberena defeated Joe Ellenberger via third-round TKO (punches). After a good start by Ellenberger, he slowed down and Barberena was able to take advantage of having the better cardio as he stormed back with some brutal strikes to score a late TKO. Barberena was +190 while Ellenberger was -210. In a bantamweight bout, Ian Entwistle defeated Anthony Birchak via first-round submission (heel hook). Entwistle was able to lock in his heel hook early in the fight and Birchak wasn’t able to defend it, giving Entwistle his first UFC victory. Entwistle was +248 while Birchak was -270.
