UFC Fight Night 56 Closing Odds & Results

osp UFC Fight Night 56 took place Saturday night in Uberlandia, Brazil, and the card was overall quite mediocre although it did feature a very exciting co-main event and a shocking finish in the main event. Overall from a betting perspective, six favorites and four underdogs won based on the closing odds at Several Bookmakers. Here’s a quick recap for each fight. Underdogs That Won In the main event of the evening, Ovince St-Preux defeated Shogun Rua via first-round TKO (punches) in a light heavyweight bout. OSP landed a beautiful counter punch while Shogun waded in to knock him down to the canvas, where he quickly finished him off with strikes for the biggest win of his career to date. OSP closed as a +165 underdog (bet $100 to win $165) while Shogun closed as a -175 favorite (bet $175 to win $100). In a welterweight bout, Claudio Silva defeated Leon Edwards via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 29-28). This was a very close fight and could have gone either way, but the judges ultimately felt Silva’s dominant positions on the ground outweighed the striking of Edwards. Silva was +195 while Edwards lost at -215. In a lightweight bout, Leandro Silva defeated Charlie Brenneman via first-round submission (rear-naked choke). Silva won a grappling battle with Brenneman early on and was able to get his back and choke him out for his first UFC win in three tries. Silva was +115, while Brenneman was -125. In a women’s strawweight bout, Juliana Lima defeated Nina Ansaroff via unanimous decision (29-28 x 3). Lima took down Ansaroff in the first two rounds and staved off a late comeback by her opponent for her first win in the UFC. Lima was +115 while Ansaroff was -125. Favorites That Won In a welterweight bout, Warlley Alves defeated Alan Jouban via unanimous decision (29-28 x 3). This was a razor-close fight that could have gone either way, but Alves showed more aggression and got the nod in his home country. Alves was -355 while Jouban was +320. In a welterweight bout, Dhiego Lima defeated Jorge Oliveira via unanimous decision (30-27 x 3). Lima took Oliveira down at will for three rounds to earn tidy 30-27 scorecards across the board in what was his first official UFC win. Lima won at -440 while Oliveira lost at +390. In a featherweight bout, Diego Rivas defeated Rodolfo Rubio via unanimous decision (30-27 x 3). Rivas took down Rubio in all three rounds to edge out a clear decision on the cards. Rivas was -150, Rubio +140. In a middleweight bout, Caio Magalhaes defeated Trevor Smith via first-round TKO (knee and punches). Magalhaes nailed Smith with a knee from the clinch and then appeared to land several blows to the back of the head that forced the ref to step in. The referee felt the blows were legal and awarded Magalhaes the TKO victory. Magalhaes was -280 and Smith was +255. In a bantamweight bout, Thomas Almeida defeated Tim Gorman via unanimous decision (30-27 x 2, 29-28). Almeida picked apart a tough Gorman on the feet for a clear-cut decision victory in front of his home country. Almeida was -365 while Gorman was +328. In a lightweight bout, Colby Covington defeated Wagner Silva via third-round submission (rear-naked choke). Covington took Silva down at will for nearly 15 minutes before finally finding an opening in the third and getting the tapout. Silva lost at +435, while Covington reigned supreme at -500.
