Legacy FC 33’s Leonard Garcia: ‘I opted out of a UFC deal to take this fight’

MMA Oddsbreaker’s Frank Trigg speaks with Legacy FC 33 featherweight Leonard Garcia as he prepares for his main event title bout Friday (July 18, 2014) against Damon Jackson at the Allen Event Center in Allen, Texas.

The fan-favorite has done more than enough to earn an invite back to the UFC, but he prefers to stay busy rather than sit on the sidelines waiting for a fight to line up:

“I had an offer to come back to the UFC but was told I might be benched for six months because the 145-ers that they do have are already on paper on cards. The most important thing to me right now is my family. If my family doesn’t have food, then I can’t make things work. That’s the main thing for me is to keep busy so I opted out of the UFC deal that would have benched me for six months to instead fight Damon Jackson and defend my Legacy title. It was just a better fit for me. I’m getting older, and I figured that the busier I stay, it’ll be like I found my youth.”
