Surprises & Disappointments From UFC Fight Night 45

Pat Healy Surprises and Disappointments is a column featured on MMAOddsbreaker.com after every UFC event, highlighting three fighters who had surprising performances and three fighters who disappointed. Here are the three surprises and the three disappointments from UFC Fight Night 45. Surprises Rick Story — In one of the top performances of the night, Rick Story dominated Leonardo Mafra en route to a second-round submission victor. Story, who holds a win over current UFC welterweight champion Johny Hendricks, is one of the most underrated 170lbers in the UFC and he should definitely fight a top-15 opponent his next time out. Joe Proctor — He was the underdog, but Joe Proctor proved he shouldn’t have been doubted as he knocked out Justin Salas in the second round with strikes. After being down early on, Proctor’s comeback in the fight was tremendous and he deserves to fight a higher-ranked opponent in his next outing. Lucas Martins — Although many discounted him due to a shaky chin, Lucas Martins held his own against Alex White for two full rounds before dispatching him in the third with strikes. It was Martins’ third win in the UFC, and there’s no doubt he’ll get a nice step up in competition for his next bout. Disappointments Evan Dunham — With a first-round TKO defeat at the legs of Edson Barboza, Evan Dunham has now lost three fights in a row and at this point it’s doubtful the UFC keeps him around. Look for him to join his friend Ray Sefo in the World Series of Fighting. Pat Healy — There’s no doubt that Pat Healy is a tough guy but with a decision loss to Gleison Tibau, Healy dropped to 0-5, 1 NC all-time in the UFC and at this point it’s doubtful the UFC keeps him around. Instead, look for him to go to Bellator or World Series of Fighting to continue his career. Jessamyn Duke — In a women’s bantamweight bout, Jessamyn Duke lost her second-straight fight in the UFC, this time succumbing to a first-round TKO from Leslie Smith. It was another awful performance by Duke, but she did break her hand in the fight and that needs to be taken into consideration. Still, she could be facing contract termination.
