UFC-159 UFC Fight Night 39 took place today from Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, and the event was surprisingly a lot of fun considering the relative lack of stars featured on the card. Overall, six favorites won while one dog cashed and one fight was canceled. Nelson used his trademark right hand to take his opponent out in devastating fashion quickly, and violently. He scored as a -160 favorite (bet $160 to win $100), while Nogueira lost as a +150 dog (bet $100 to win $150). In the co-main event of the evening, Clay Guida defeated Tatsuya via unanimous decision. Guida’s relentless pressure was too much for Kawajiri to handle and he scored at -140, while Kawajiri lost at +130. In a welterweight bout, Ryan LaFlare defeated John Howard via unanimous decision. LaFlare’s wrestling proved to be the key difference in this one and he won as a -410 fav, while Howard lost as a +365 dog. In a heavyweight bout, Jared Rosholt defeated Daniel Omielanczuk via unanimous decision. Rosholt used dominant wrestling to take Omielanczuk to the ground and beat him up for three rounds. Rosholt scored as a -280 fav, while his opponent lost at +255. In a middleweight bout, Thales Leites defeated Trevor Smith via first-round TKO (punches). Leites pushed the pace on Smith early and hurt him badly with strikes to get the stoppage and cash as a -545 fav. Smith, meanwhile, was a +465 dog. In a featherweight bout, Jim Alers defeated Alan Omer via split decision. The two fought valiantly for the full 15 minutes but Alers’ wrestling proved to be the difference and he cashed as a -230 fav, while Omer lost at +210. UFC Fight Night 39 Underdogs That Won In a lightweight bout, Ramsey Nijem, defeated Beneil Dariush via first-round TKO (punches). Nijem stormed Dariush with strikes in the first and while Dariush survived for a while, he just couldn’t hold on long enough. Nijem won as a +230 dog, while Dariush lost as a -250 fav. UFC Fight Night 39 Fights That Were Canceled In a bantamweight bout, Rani Yahya vs. Johnny Bedford was ruled a No Contest after an accidental headbutt by Bedford knocked out Yahya early in the first round. The referee correctly ruled it a No Contest, and both Yahya at -170 and Bedford at +160 were canceled.
