UFC Fight Night 33 Play: Ryan Bader (-500) vs Anthony “The Hippo” Perosh (+400)

Ryan BaderUFC Fight Night 33 Date: December 6, 2013 Arena: Brisbane Entertainment Centre City: Brisbane, Queensland, Australia Light Heavyweight bout: Ryan Bader (-500) vs Anthony “The Hippo” Perosh (+400) Fight Breakdown: The UFC Fight Night 33 main card on FOX Sports 1 will feature a light heavyweight match-up between a pair off high level grapplers, when the All-American wrestler Ryan “Darth” Bader takes on the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu specialist out of Australia, Anthony “The Hippo” Perosh. Bader is the big favorite in this contest at -500 ($500 to win $100), with Perosh being the big underdog at +400 ($100 to win $400) Several Bookmakerss. RYAN “DARTH” BADER (15-4 MMA, 8-4 UFC) won season eight of The Ultimate Fighter, and has found success in the UFC since, being one of the more successful winners to break out of the television series. Bader is coming off of a first round knockout loss at the hands of Glover Teixeira in Brazil just three months ago. He rocked Teixeira towards the end of the round, and as he swarmed in to finish, Teixeira caught him with a punch that sent him to the canvas. The three-time PAC 10 and two-time NCAA Division I All-American wrestler out of Arizona State University now looks to make a quick turnaround, and get back on the win column. Bader has incredible power, and works solid takedowns. He is capable of using his wrestling to control and dominate opponents, but has also begun to hone his boxing skills. Bader will enter this bout with an edge in the striking department, which is rare for him. He will also undoubtedly have the advantage in power. Anthony Perosh (14-7 MMA, 4-5 UFC) makes a return to the Octagon in front of his hometown crowd, coming off of a first round knockout victory over Vinny Magalhaes at UFC 163 just four months ago. The knockout came only 14 seconds into the fight, which almost made up for the seven second knockout loss he suffered at the hands of Ryan Jimmo one year prior. Perosh had been on a roll before being knocked out by Jimmo, as the defeat snapped a four fight win streak he had put together. “Hippo” is average at best with his striking, but when it comes to the ground-game, he is certainly a submission ace, as he owns a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and is one of the best submission artists to come out of Australia. When Perosh gets a hold of his opponent, it’s only a matter of time before he finds his way to a finish. The fact that 9 out of 14 of his career victories have come by way of submission reflects how dangerous he is on the mat. “Hippo” is a warrior who always fights for the finish, and he will be looking to score one more against Bader. Fight Prediction: The only way Perosh wins this fight is if something very similar to Bader vs Ortiz happens, where Ortiz caught Bader with a right hook, then followed up with a guillotine as soon as he sensed Bader was in a trouble. Against Perosh, Bader does not want to leave any similar openings. The smartest thing for him to do would be to play it safe and not rush in looking to finish. However, I think that is exactly what he is going to do, but this time, much like in the Matyushenko fight, I think he is going to be successful. Gabe’s Pick: Ryan “Darth” Bader by KO (punches, 0:28, round 1) Gabe’s Recommended Play: Bader/Perosh Under 1.5 rounds (-165) 4.95u to win 3u Make sure to follow me on Twitter @GabeKillianMMA, as I will be giving out more plays on this fight.
