MMA Odds and Ends for Tuesday: UFC Beijing Card Shaping Up

A couple of new matchups have been added to the upcoming UFC Fight Night 141 card, which is set to take place Saturday, November 24 at Cadillac Arena in Beijing, China, and I’ll give my thoughts on these new bouts in today’s MMA odds and ends.

Rashad Coulter vs. Yaozong Hu, UFC Fight Night 141

A heavyweight bout between Rashad Coulter and Yaozong Hu is set for UFC Fight Night 141. Coulter (8-4) has suffered knockout losses in his first three UFC bouts and looked particularly bad in his last fight as his cardio let him down and he was finished by Chris de la Rocha. Prior to that, Tai Tuivasa and Chase Sherman knocked him out, which snapped the five-fight win streak he had in LFA and Bellator. Hu (3-1) was submitted by Cyril Asker in his UFC debut. Both guys are on the bottom end of the heavyweight scale in the UFC, but based on his experience in the Octagon I’d tend to lean towards Coulter to get the win.

Shana Dobson vs. Yanan Wu, UFC Fight Night 141

Women’s flyweights Shana Dobson and Yanan Wu meet at UFC Fight Night 141. Dobson (3-2) is 1-1 in the UFC. After losing to Roxanne Modafferi in the TUF house, she beat Ariel Beck via strikes at the Finale before losing a decision to Lauren Mueller in her last fight. Wu (8-2) lost a decision to Gina Mazany in her UFC debut but the majority of her wins in the sport have come by knockout. I’d expect someone gets finished in this bout and would probably lean towards Wu to get the win.

Xiaonan Yan vs. Syuri Kondo, UFC Fight Night 141

And finally, a women’s strawweight bout between Xiaonan Yan and Syrui Kondo takes place at UFC Fight Night 141. Yan (9-1) has won her last seven fights including back-to-back wins over Kailin Curran and Viviane Pereira in her two UFC bouts. The win over Pereira in particular was notable and it showed everyone she has some good potential in this sport. Kondo (6-1) won a decision over Chan Mi Jeon in her UFC debut but was knocked out with a body kick against Poliana Botelho in her next UFC appearance. Yan has been nothing but impressive to me and considering Kondo is coming off of a loss I’m really surprised the UFC made this matchup. As it is, I would have to lean towards Yan to get the win and continue her streak of victories alive.
