MMA Odds and Ends for Wednesday: Tim Elliott fights newcomer Mark De La Rosa at UFC 219

Tim Elliott got his wish to fight at UFC 219 and will be taking on undefeated Mark De La Rosa who was signed to the UFC this week. Both fighters announced the matchup on their respective social media platforms.

Elliott (14-8-1) was slated to face Pietro Menga at UFC on FOX 26 last week however the newcomer missed weight and the fight was called off. The Ultimate Fighter Season 25 winner has lost two of his last three fights including a first-round submission setback against Ben Nguyen at UFC Fight Night 110. De La Rosa (9-0) enters the UFC finishing six of his nine career opponents. The husband of UFC flyweight Montana De La Rosa, is coming off a third-round submission victory over Mahatma Chit-Bala Garcia Avalos at Combate 15 in June.

Darrion Caldwell defends his bantamweight title against Leandro Higo at Bellator 195

Bellator bantamweight champion Darrion Caldwell will make the first defense of his title on March 2 at Bellator 195 when he faces former LFA bantamweight champion Leandro Higo.

Caldwell (11-1) captured the Bellator title in October with a unanimous decision win over two-time titleholder Eduardo Dantas at Bellator 184. The 30-year-old only competed once this past year. Higo (18-3) is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Joe Taimanglo at Bellator 184. Prior to that, the TUF Brazil 4 contestant lost to former champion Eduardo Dantas by unanimous decision at Bellator 177 earlier this year.
