Mixed Martial Arts Veteran Recap: July 2017

At the beginning of every month, I feature my recurring “Veteran Watch” article, which takes a look at some notable veterans competing on the regional/overseas circuit. In this article, I recap how these veteran fighters fared in their respective bouts for the month of July. 

Pancrase 288 – July 2nd (Tokyo, Japan)

Issei Tamura (10-8) vs. Yuki Nakahara (10-4) 
Bout cancelled per Tapology

Yuki Kondo def. Ikuhisa Minowa via Unanimous Decision
The 41-year-old Kondo snaps a three-fight skid and earns his second win since 2015. Minowa has now lost four of his last five fights. 

Fight Nights Global 70 – July 7th (Republic of Buryatia, Russia)

Rousimar Palhares def. Alexei Ivanov via Submission (Leglock) at 0:37, RD. 1 
Former WSOF welterweight champion Palhares earns his first win since 2015 and snaps a two-fight losing streak. Meanwhile, Ivanov has now lost back-to-back fights after winning five in a row. 

BAMMA 30 – July 7th (Dublin, Ireland)

Paul Redmond def. Rob Sinclair via Submission (Leglock) at 2:11, RD. 2
UFC vet Redmond has now won two of his last three fights. With the setback, Sinclair has now lost three of his last four fights and suffers back-to-back losses for the first time in his career. 

Russia vs Japan – July 10th (Ekaterinburg, Russia)

Ivan Shtyrkov def. Satoshi Ishii via TKO (Punches) at 3:43, RD. 2 
Shtyrkov keeps his unblemished record intact while Ishii drops to 3-4 in his last seven fights. 

Dana White’s Contender Series 1 – July 7th (Las Vegas, Nevada)

Kurt Holobaugh def. Matt Bessette via TKO (Punches) at 2:59, RD. 1 
Holobaugh improves his winning streak to four in a row while Bessette has his seven-fight win streak snapped. With the victory, Holobaugh was signed to the UFC. 

Joby Sanchez def. Manny Vazquez via Unanimous Decision 
Former UFC flyweight Sanchez earns his third straight win while Vasquez drops to 11-3 in his career. 

Road FC 40 – July 15th (Seoul, South Korea)

Siala Siliga “Mighty Mo” def. Dong Guk Kang via TKO (Ground and Pound) at 2:25, RD. 2 
Former Bellator heavyweight Siliga improves his winning streak to six straight and has now gone 6-2 since leaving Bellator in 2014. Kang drops to 0-2 in his career. 

Hoon Kim def. Riki Fukuda via TKO (Punches) at 2:38, RD. 2 
Kim earns his first win since 2011 while UFC veteran Fukuda has now lost three of his last four fights. 

Shamil Zavurov def. Leo Kuntz via Unanimous Decision
Zavurov makes his four wins in a row while Kuntz has now lost three of his last four fights. 

Munguntsooj Nandin-Erdene def. Gleristone Santos via TKO (Punches) at 2:25, RD. 1 
Nandin-Erdene improves his winning streak to five straight while Bellator veteran Santos drops to 2-3 in his last five fights. 

Ronys Torres def. Elnur Agaev via Submission (Keylock) at 2:19, RD. 1 
WSOF/UFC vet Torres extends his winning streak 10 straight while Agaev has now lost back-to-back fights.

TFC 15 – July 22nd (Seoul, South Korea)

Takenori Sato (19-11-7) vs. Sung Chan Hong (6-1) – No-Contest 
UFC veteran Sato ends up with another No-Contest against Hong in his second straight fight against him. 

ACB 65: Silva vs Agnaev – July 23rd (Ontario, California)

Batraz Agnaev def. Thiago Silva via TKO (Punches) at 3:34, RD.2 
Aganev keeps his unblemished record intact, earning his fourth straight win by stoppage. Meanwhile, former UFC/WSOF light heavyweight Silva has his three-fight win streak snapped. 

Joshua Aveles def. Leandro Silva via Unanimous Decision 
Aveles has remained unbeaten in his last seven fights while Silva has now lost three of his last four fights. 

Mike Kyle (22-14-1) vs. Evgeny Erokhin (17-5) 
Bout cancelled per Tapology

Pat Healy def. Brendan Loughnane via Split Decision 
Former Titan FC lightweight champion Healy snaps a two-fight skid, earning his first win since March 2016. Meanwhile, Loughnane has his four-fight win streak snapped with the setback. 

Oktagon 3 – July 29th (Prague, Czech Republic)

Attila Vegh def. Paul Byrne via Unanimous Decision. Wins vacant light heavyweight title 
Former Bellator light heavyweight champion Veigh earns his first win February 2013 after taking on SBG product Byrne, who has now lost three straight. 

Professional Fighters League: Everett– July 29th (Everett, Washington)

Yushin Okami def. Andre Lobato via Unanimous Decision
Former UFC title challenger Okami earns his fourth win in a row. Lobato with the loss has his 10-fight win streak snapped

Jake Shields def. Danny Davis Jr. via Unanimous Decision
UFC/Strikeforce vet Shields earns his first win since January 2015 and also snaps a two-fight skid in the process. With the loss, Davis Jr has his two-fight win streak snapped.

Josh Copeland def. Mike Kyle via Unanimous Decision
Former UFC heavyweight Copeland earns his third win in a row after defeating Strikeforce veteran Kyle who has lost three of his last four fights.

Jared Rosholt def. Nick Rossborough via Unanimous Decision
UFC veteran Rosholt snaps his two-fight losing streak while Rossbourugh drops to 2-2 in his last four fights.

RIZIN Fighting World Grand Prix 2017: 1st Round – July 30th (Saitama, Japan)

Kyoji Horiguchi def. Hideo Tokoro via TKO at 1:29, RD. 1
Former UFC title challenger Horiguchi earns his fifth win in a row while Tokoro has now gone 2-5 in his last seven fights. 

Takafumi Otsuka def. Anthony Birchak via Split Decision. 
Otsuka now remains unbeaten in his last sevens fights while Birchak has now lost three of his last four fights.
