Post-UFC 209: And the Bonus Goes to…

Teymur vs VannataThe Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was in back in Las Vegas, NV this past Saturday night (March 4, 2017) with UFC 209: Woodley vs. Thompson II. It was an entertaining night of fights, and after the event concluded, the UFC awarded $50,000 to two fighters for ‘Performance of the Night’ and two fighters for ‘Fight of the Night.’ The lines to wager on these props were available at Several Bookmakers. The post-fight bonus winners for UFC 209 were… Darren Elkins earns Performance of the Night (formerly, Knockout of the Night) Elkins scored one of the biggest upsets in UFC history in come-from-behind fashion when he knocked out highly-touted prospect Mirsad Bektic in the third round of action, handing the Bosnian the first official loss of his professional MMA career. It was a career-defining moment for Elkins, and certainly a highlight-reel victory. He now enjoys a four-fight winning streak inside the Octagon and continues his climb up the ranks. Noteworthy T/KO(s): – Alistair Overeem defeated Mark Hunt via third-round knockout with brutal knees to bounce back into the win column after suffering a first-round knockout against UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic in his failed bid for the title last September. – Tyson Pedro defeated Paul Craig via first-round TKO in a battle of undefeated light heayweights. He now rides a two-fight winning streak inside the Octagon, with both victories coming by way of first-round finish. Iuri Alcantara earns Performance of the Night (formerly, Submission of the Night) Alcantara scored an incredible come-from-behind second-round kneebar submission of former RFA bantamweight champion Luke Sanders, handing him the first official loss of his professional MMA career. Sanders had been dominating every second of that fight, nearly having it stopped on a number of occasions, until one little mistake allowed Alcantara to capitalize with the find-ending submission finish. It was a solid win for the Brazilian, who now enjoys a two-fight winning streak in the UFC. Noteworthy Submission(s): – Cynthia Calvillo defeated Amanda Cooper via first-round rear-naked choke submission to pick up her first UFC victory. It was a picture-perfect Octagon debut for Team Alpha Male’s Calvillo, who made the most of her Pay-Per-View slot with the highlight-reel finish. David Teymur and Lando Vannata earn Fight of the Night honors for their three-round battle in the co-main event at UFC 209. The pair produced an entertaining, back-and-forth striking affair that saw the Swede get the better of Vannata for the majority of 15 minutes of action en route to picking up a unanimous-decision win on the judges’ scorecards. It was an entertaining scrap and deserving of ‘Fight of the Night’ honors. Teymur now has a three-fight winning streak in the UFC while Vannata failed to secure his second straight victory and is headed back to the drawing board. Noteworthy fight(s): – Albert Morales defeated Andre Soukhamthath via split decision following three entertaining back-and-forth rounds of action.
