masvidal-cruickshankUFC on FOX 23: Shevchenko vs Pena Date: January 28, 2016 Arena: Pepsi Center City: Denver, CO The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is back in Denver, CO for the sixth time in promotional historyw with UFC on FOX 23: Shevchenko vs Pena. The 12-fight card is set to kick off with preliminary action on UFC Fight Pass at 4pm ET. Prelims will continue on FOX Sports 1 at 5pm and the main card get underway at 8pm on FOX. If interested in wagering on any bouts for this fight card, all betting lines will be made available to you at 5Dimes Sportsbook. Here are my live dogs: Women’s Bantamweight bout: Julianna Pena (+135) vs Valentina Shevchenko (-155) Gabe’s Thoughts: I think this is a close fight and I think Pena should be a slight betting favorite heading in, so I see value in her at her current underdog price of +135. I see her having the superior cardio and being the fresher fighter heading into the later rounds. She has a grappling advantage over Shevchenko in this classic “striker versus grappler” match-up and I expect her to employ it en route to a win on the judges’ scorecards. It would not surprise me to see her earn a finish, but I think a win by decision is more likely for Pena. Gabe’s Call: Pena by Unanimous Decision (48-47, 48-47, 48-47) Gabe’s Recommended Play: Pena (+135) 2u to win 2.7u Welterweight bout: Donald Cerrone (-145) vs Jorge Masvidal (+125) Gabe’s Thoughts: I think Masvidal should be a slight betting favorite in this 170-pound contest, which makes me like him for a value play at his current underdog price tag of +125. I think he is more likely to win this fight both inside the distance and on the judges’ scorecards. He is also mentally tougher than Cerrone and has absolutely no quit in him. He was known as a slow starter at 155-pounds but has been putting the pedal to the metal since moving up to welterweight. I see Masvidal outstriking Cerrone in this contest, and perhaps outwrestling him, as well. I can see him finding success with his wrestling and ground and pound, while defending Cerrone’s submission attacks from the bottom. Despite being on enemy territory in Cerrone’s hometown of Denver, CO., I think Masvidal should be the betting favorite here, so I will gladly take him at dog odds. Gabe’s Call: Masvidal by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) Gabe’s Recommended Play: Masvidal (+125) 3u to win 3.75 All of my content and plays are free. Your support is greatly appreciated.
