Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC Perth Opening Odds:

  • The main event features a five-round welterweight bout between former champion Jack Della Maddalena and Carlos Prates. Della Maddalena won the first eight fights of his UFC career, including beating Belal Muhammad to win the title, before losing to Islam Makhachev in his last outing. As for Prates, he is 6-1 in the UFC with six knockout wins. Both men have been very impressive so far in the UFC, but Prates has more momentum coming into this bout, having won his last two. He opened up as the favorite, though early money came in on the dog.
  • In the co-main event, we have Quillan Salkilld taking on Beneil Dariush in the lightweight division. Salkilld joined the UFC last year, and he is already 4-0 inside the Octagon with three finishes. He is one of the top lightweight prospects in the sport, and he earned his shot to fight someone ranked in the top 15, which Dariush is. While Dariush has been a great fighter for many years, he turns 37 soon, and he has lost three of his last four fights heading into this one. He has also been brutally knocked out several times during his UFC career. While Dariush has the experience edge, his durability is a huge concern, and it’s difficult to envision him having much success in this fight against a talented knockout artist like Salkilld.
