Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC 318 Opening Odds:
- In the main event of UFC 318, we have the trilogy match between Max Holloway and Dustin Poirier. Holloway is coming off a brutal KO loss to Ilia Topuria at featherweight and is moving back up to lightweight, where he knocked out Justin Gaethje in highlight-reel fashion at UFC 300. As for Poirier, he last fought against former champion Islam Makhachev and was finished by submission. That being said, Poirier has beaten Holloway twice before and has a hometown advantage here, so despite being the underdog, you cannot count him out.
- In the co-main event, we have a middleweight bout between Paulo Costa and Roman Kopylov. Costa has not fought since losing a split decision to Sean Strickland last June, and overall, he has lost four of his last five fights, with his only win since the start of the decade being a decision win over Luke Rockhold in 2022. As for Kopylov, he is on a two-fight win streak, and he has won six of his last seven fights overall. The oddsmakers opened up Costa as a small favorite, but the line quickly flipped, and now Kopylov is the clear favorite to win.
