Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC 317 Opening Odds:
- The main event of UFC 317 sees the vacant UFC lightweight title on the line between Charles Oliveira and Ilia Topuria, who vacated his featherweight belt to move up to lightweight. Oliveira is coming off a decision win over Michael Chandler in his last fight and earned this title shot due to circumstances, as Islam Makhachev vacated his belt to move up to welterweight, while Arman Tsarukyan was passed over due to withdrawing from a title fight earlier this year at UFC 311. As for Topuria, he is unbeaten in his MMA career with a 16-0 record and is coming off back-to-back KO wins over Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway. No wonder, then, that Topuria is a big favorite to win the UFC vacant lightweight belt in this fight.
- In the co-main event, we have UFC flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja taking on Kai Kara-France. Pantoja has won his last seven fights in a row, and he holds a previous win over KKF on TUF in 2016. As for KKF, he is coming off a knockout win over Steve Erceg in his last fight, but he lost his previous two bouts before that. KKF certainly has the KO power to make things interesting in this fight, but overall, you have to lean toward Pantoja to win this fight and retain his belt, as he is the champion for a reason.
