Here are my quick thoughts on the 297 Opening Odds:
- The main event of UFC 297 is a UFC middleweight title bout between Sean Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis. Strickland has won his last three fights in a row, including a huge upset win over former champion Israel Adesanya in his last bout. As for Du Plessis, he has won all six of his UFC fights, including five of those wins coming by stoppage. This is a tough fight to call because both men are very talented and on win streaks. It’s a fight that can go either way.
- The co-main event of UFC 297 is a vacant UFC women’s bantamweight title bout between Mayra Beuno Silva and Raquel Pennington. Silva is coming off a No Contest with Holly Holm in a fight that she originally won before the result was overturned due to a positive banned substance test. Overall, she is unbeaten in her last four bouts. As for Pennington, she has won her last five straight fights and has not lost since 2020. This should be a good fight and it’s a tough one to call. While Silva is very talented, Pennington might be able to grind her out here. Based on what the current betting odds for this fight are, it might be a dog-or-pass situation.
