Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC Vegas 78 Opening Odds:
- The main event of UFC Vegas 78 is a five-round welterweight bout between Vicente Luque and Rafael dos Anjos. Luque is coming off of two straight losses to Geoff Neal and Belal Muhammad and he appears to be on the decline phase of his career at age 31. As for dos Anjos, he is coming off of a submission win over Bryan Barberena. Despite being 38 years old, it still feels like dos Anjos is in the prime of his MMA career. Overall, this should be a fantastic fight between two veterans of the sport. Dos Anjos opened up as a small favorite here, likely due to his grappling advantage, but if Luque is able to keep this fight standing, he could win.
- Also on the card is a featherweight bout between Cub Swanson and Hakeem Dawodu. Swanson was knocked out by Jonathan Martinez in his last fight in what was a poor career move down to the UFC bantamweight division. As for Dawodu, he has lost two of his last three fights, including a decision defeat to Julian Erosa his last time out. That being said, Dawodu opened up as a sizable favorite in this bout due to his youth advantage.
