Here are my initial thoughts on the Opening Odds For Bellator 294:

  • Headlining Bellator 294 is a women’s flyweight title bout between the champion Liz Carmouche and contender Deanna Bennett, which is actually a rematch. These two previously met in 2020, with Carmouche winning by third-round submission in her Bellator debut. Since leaving the UFC, Carmouche is a perfect 5-0 in Bellator with four stoppage wins and she is now the champion. As for Bennett, she has won three straight fights since her loss to Carmouche, including consecutive decision wins over Justine Kish. While Bennett is certainly a capable fighter in her own right, Carmouche is definitely the superior grappler, and she should be able to use her wrestling and submission skills to take Bennett down and finish her.
  • Also on the card is a heavyweight bout between Tim Johnson and Said Sowma. Johnson has lost his last three fights in a row and he appears to have reached the decline phase of his MMA career, which overall he has had a good career. As for Sowma, he has lost two straight fights by split decision so this is a crucial fight for him to get the finish in. Overall, this fight could go either way consdiering it’s a heavyweight bout between two powerful punchers. But the oddsmakers opened up Johnson as the favorite due to his vast experience.
