Here are my initial thoughts on the Opening Odds For Dana White’s Contender Series 49:

  • Dana White’s Contender Series Season 6 continues with another fun card this Tuesday evening. In the main event, Bo Nickal takes on Zachary Borrego in a middleweight bout. Nickal was a standout wrestler from Penn State who transitioned into MMA in 2022 with a KO win at iKON FC 3. He looks like an incredible prospect due to his wrestling, athleticism, and power, and it would be something special if he made it to the UFC with just two pro fights under his belt. As for Borrego, he is unbeaten at 3-0 while competing in Fury FC. Although Borrego seems like a decent prospect himself, Nickal has so much hype and opened up as the favorite.
  • Also on the card is a heavyweight bout between Jamal Pogues and Paulo Renato Jr. Pogues competed on DWCS in 2019 and won his fight by a decision but Dana White passed on signing him. After going 1-1 since then in LFA, he’s getting another shot on DWCS. As for Renato Jr., he rides a nine-fight win streak into this event, although the level of his competition hasn’t been the greatest. This fight looks like it could go either way as both men have some talent but are still heavyweights by nature. Pogues, however, opened up as the favorite here, likely just due to him having more experience in bigger promotions like DWCS and Bellator.
