Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC Vegas 50 Opening Odds:

  • The main event of UFC Vegas 50 is a light heavyweight bout between top contenders Thiago Santos and Magomed Ankalaev. Although Santos is the higher-ranked fighter according to the UFC rankings, Ankalaev opened as the favorite and his number has since been steamed up to close to -500 at some books. It’s understandable why. After all, Ankalaev has won his last seven fights in a row, and he’s been unbeatable in the UFC aside from a last-second loss to Paul Craig in his debut back in 2018. As for Santos, he has been one of the best light heavyweights in the world for several years now, but he has struggled as of late with a 1-3 record over his last four fights. Granted, he has been fighting elite competition in those fights. Still, Ankalaev is the younger fighter and has more momentum, so he should be favored here.
  • As for the co-main event, it’s a bantamweight bout between Song Yadong and Marlon Moraes. Yadong is just 24 years old and he is already 7-1-1 overall in the UFC. He has won his last two fights and is looking really good as of late. As for Moraes, he’s lost three straight fights and appears to be on a major decline. It should come as no surprise that Yadong is favored here.
