MMA Odds and Ends for Tuesday: Diego Brandao FNG shenanigans, Ben Askren retirement fight booked

A few fights were announced yesterday, and a pretty strange bout took place in Dagastan. Let’s get to it!

Diego Brandao leaves cage at FNG 73

Former Ultimate Fighter season 12 winner Diego Brandao was handed a loss after he exited the cage and refused to continue following repeated headbutts and a bite from his opponent as well as trash being thrown into the cage in the main event of Fight Nights Global 73 in Dagistan, Russia.

Jack Hermansson vs Thiago Santos announced for UFC Fight Night 119

UFC Europe announced the bout on Twitter yesterday and it is scheduled to take place October 28th in Sau Paulo, Brazil. Hermansson has gone 3-1 since debuting inside the Octagon a year ago and is currently riding a two-fight winning streak. He most recently defeated Brad Scott via first round TKO at UFC Fight Night 114. Santos has gone 8-3 in the UFC and is also currently riding a two-fight win streak, most recently stopping Gerald Meerschaert via second round TKO at UFC 213 in July.

205 lbs: Glover Teixeira vs. Misha Cirkunov
170 lbs: Demian Maia vs. Colby Covington
125 lbs: Deiveson Alcântara Figueiredo vs. Jarred Brooks

265 lbs: Christian Colombo vs. Carlos Felipe
185 lbs: Antônio Carlos Júnior vs. Jack Marshman
185 lbs: Thiago Santos vs Jack Hermansson

Ben Askren to face Shinya Aoki in One Championship retirement bout

Undefeated former US Olympic wrestler Ben Askren will fight one more time before calling it a career. Askren (17-0) was a former Bellator welterweight champion and chose One Championship after becoming a free agent. Under the ONE Championship banner, Askren has gone 5-0 with one no contest and has won the welterweight title, defending it successfully three times. He’ll take on Japanese submission sensation Shinya Aoki on November 24th at ONE Championship: Immortal Pursuit in Singapore. 

Also announced for the card will be a rematch between ONE Championship strawweight champion Angela Lee (8-0) and veteran Mei Yamaguchi (16-10)
