Post-UFC 190: And the Bonus Goes to…

Demian-MaiaThe Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returned to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil this past Saturday night with UFC 190: Rousey vs Correia and produced a memorable night of mixed martial arts action, culminating with Rousey’s 34-second destruction of Correira. After the event concluded, the UFC awarded $50,000 to two fighters for ‘Performance of the Night’ and two fighters for ‘Fight of the Night’. The lines to wager on these props were available at Several Bookmakerss. Ronda Rousey earns Performance of the Night (formerly, Knockout of the Night) It took just 34-seconds for “Rowdy” to knockout Bethe Correia in the main event of the evening, successfully defending her UFC Women’s Bantamweight title yet again. Rousey continued to display great improvement in her striking and made a statement by finishing a striker at her own game. And so, the legend of Ronda Rousey continues… Noteworthy T/KO(s): – Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva scored a come from behind second round TKO victory over Soa Palelei, after being hurt and nearly finished himself in the first stanza. A solid win for the Brazilian, as he returns to the heavyweight win column. – Patrick Cummins earned a third round TKO stoppage of Rafael “Fejao” Cavalcante and made his return to the win column. He dominated the Brazilian with his superior wrestling throughout the contest, ultimately putting him away at the start of the third and final round. – Vitor Miranda made it two in a row inside the Octagon with a destruction and second round TKO of Clint Hester. It was a solid outing for the 35-year old Brazilian, who continues to impress inside the Octagon. Demian Maia earns Performance of the Night (formerly, Submission of the Night) It took seconds for Maia to take his opponent Neil Magny down to the mat and dominate him there in the first frame, and it was a repeat of the same in the second, except in the second round he managed to sink in the rear naked choke to earn the tap. It was a very impressive performance by the Brazilian, who snapped Magny’s seven fight winning streak while simultaneously extending his own to three. He earned the tap with only 14 seconds remaining in the third and final round of action. – Warlley Alves defeated Nordine Taleb via guillotine choke submission in the second round of action to extend his UFC winning streak to three in a row. Mauricio Rua and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira earn Fight of the Night for their three round war on in the co-main event of the evening at this past Saturday night’s UFC 190 in Rio de Janeiro. “Lil’ Nog” badly hurt Rua in the first frame, but “Shogun” recovered well and survived the round to come back and win the second and third for a 29-28 unanimous decision win on the judges’ scorecards. It was an impressive come from behind victory for Rua, and a good win to get him back into the win column, though many would agree that it’s time for him to finally make the move down to 185-pounds and make a run there before hanging up the gloves. Other noteworthy fights: – Stefan Struve defeated Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira via unanimous decision on the judges’ scorecards following three rounds of action. The scrap saw both big men have their moments, but it was ultimately the Dutchman who got the better of the exchanges on the feet and against the cage over the 15 minutes of action to earn the unanimous nod and ultimately return to the win in three and a half years. – Reginaldo Viera defeated Dileno Lopes via unanimous decision on the judges’ scorecards to become the TUF: Brazil 4 bantamweight tournament winner.
