Here are my initial thoughts on the Opening Odds for Road to UFC: Abu Dhabi Episode 5:

  • The Road To UFC is back with another set of solid fights featuring new international prospects. In a featherweight bout, we have Zha Yi taking on Koyomi Matsushima. Yi picked up a stoppage win at Road to UFC 1 earlier this year and overall, he has won nine of his last 10 fights. As for Matsushima, he is coming off a win at Road to UFC 2, which helped him bounce back following a loss to Garry Tonon in ONE Championship. The odds are close for a reason, but with Yi having been more consistent as of late, he opened up as the betting favorite here.
  • Also on the card is a flyweight bout between Seung Guk Choi and Qiulun. Choi is a 25-year-old South Korean prospect who trains at Korean Zombie MMA. He competed on the first Road to UFC installment earlier this year, where he picked up a decision win. As for Quilun, he is also 25 years old and he won at the second RTU event earlier this year. He also has experience fighting for Dana White’s Contender Series in 2021, where he lost a decision. Overall this should be an interesting match to watch play out, but you have to lean toward Choi to get his hand raised, and the oddsmakers indeed opened him up as a small betting favorite.
