Post-UFC 200: On the Chopping Block

Takanori GomiThe big UFC 200 finally came went, leaving behind mixed feelings about the event. Nonetheless, it did deliver an entertaining night of scraps, and following the action, let’s take a look at which of the competitors who went to war on Saturday night we may no longer see go to work inside the Octagon… ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK Enrique Marin Marin made his UFC debut at UFC Fight Night 78 last November, taking on Mexico’s Erick Montano and losing the bout via split decision on the judges’ scorecards following three competitive rounds of action. His next Octagon outing came at this past Saturday night’s UFC 200, where he faced Sage Northcutt and lost the bout via unanimous decision in another closely contested scrap that saw him have Northcutt in trouble with his submission attempts. Now 0-2 in the UFC, I think it is 50/50 whether the UFC keeps him around or not, but I hope they do, as I think “Wasabi” has potential. Takanori Gomi “The Fireball Kid” suffered a first round TKO at the hands of Jim Miller at this past Saturday night’s UFC 200 and he is now on a three fight losing streak inside the Octagon and is 4-7 in the UFC; though it is worth noting that he should be 5-6, if not for a controversial decision loss against Diego Sanchez. At this point, I think it is 50/50 whether the UFC releases him or not. If they do, he will likely go compete for Bellator. But if they decide to keep him around ofr his name value, perhaps they ought to start pitting him against opponents who aren’t heavily favorited to defeat him.
